Yoga Physical Therapy at SHC Closter

The Spine & Health Center of Closter is proud to offer yoga physical therapy, provided by Dr. Trella Allen. Dr. Allen has been a well-known, top-level instructor here in New Jersey for over 10 years, with countless hours of training certifications under her belt.

In her Yoga physical therapy classes, Dr. Allen focuses on the combination of strength and alignment components of Ashtanga yoga and Iyengar yoga.

Her understanding of human anatomy and movement analysis helps to bridge the gap between physical therapy and yoga, promoting an optimal and safe environment for re-integration into exercise.

Not currently involved in a prescribed therapy program here? SHC welcomes those looking for a comprehensive new yoga experience not offered anywhere else in Bergen County! Yoga PT classes are open to individuals of all levels, from beginners to advanced yogis.

Meet Dr. Trella Allen

Dr. Allen, PT, DPT, has taught yoga for ten years, which was the impetus for wanting to become a physical therapist. Her style of teaching combines alignment based fundamentals and vigor where you can expect a creative flow, intense core and fun inversions.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga yoga is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light, and strong body, and a calm mind.

Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar yoga is a system of hatha yoga developed by B.K.S. Iyengar; it is firmly rooted in the traditional eight limbs of yoga as expounded by Patanjali in his classic treatise, The Yoga Sutras. The Iyengar method of practice emphasizes the cultivation of self-knowledge primarily through Asana (yoga postures) and Pranayama (yogic breathing). Attention is given to the development of alignment, balance, strength, stamina, flexibility, concentration, and keen awareness.
